It will couple a discussion of the practical mechanics of a document review with discussion of recent district court orders on the use of TAR/AI review tools.
This POWER Act session explores how attorneys entering pro bono work can support domestic violence victims and survivors within sovereign Tribal Nations. It examines the impact of domestic violence in Indigenous communities, including key statistics, warning signs, common obstacles to seeking help, and available resources for victims and their dependents.

The program addresses the significant disparities in domestic violence rates in Indian Country, highlighting why incidents are disproportionately high and how gaps in research and data contribute to challenges in shaping effective policy and funding strategies. It also considers the historical, jurisdictional, and cultural barriers that reinforce these inequities.

Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of relevant legal frameworks, including the Violence Against Women Act, 25 U.S.C. § 1304, and the Tribal Law and Order Act, 25 U.S.C. § 1302. The session also introduces the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) movement, an Indigenous-led national effort to raise awareness and drive change.

Finally, the program outlines practical strategies for attorneys to get involved in a meaningful yet limited capacity, equipping them to contribute effectively to this critical area of need.
