Local counsel who are familiar with the rules and nuances of a specific federal district court play a vital role in the successful litigation of a case. In this CLE, attendees will hear from three panel members who have substantial experience serving as local counsel in the District of Colorado in both civil and criminal matters and retaining qualified local counsel in other federal district courts. The presenters will discuss recent experiences serving as local counsel in trials before Judge Brimmer and Judge Moore, and experience retaining local counsel in mass litigation across the country.
The CLE will cover topics such as best practices for furthering your client’s needs and goals as local counsel, resources and strategies for locating qualified local counsel in other jurisdictions, and ethical issues that frequently arise when serving as and retaining local counsel. Among other ethics-related topics, the presenters will discuss ensuring compliance with Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1 and 1.4 despite not having a direct line of communication to the client. Attendees are also welcome to ask questions that are specific to their needs and practice. Written materials are available HERE. 2 general/.8 ethics CLE credits approved.
