"A PRIMER ON QUALIFIED IMMUNITY"
THURSDAY, APRIL 11, 2024
MICHAEL FAIRHURST, Esq.
Killmer Lane, LLP
12:00-1:15 p.m.
Webinar
The doctrine of qualified immunity is a central component of litigating civil rights claims under the United States Constitution. Michael Fairhurst, a partner at the Denver-based civil rights firm Killmer Lane, LLP, will lead a session discussing qualified immunity. Included in the course will be an overview of the origins of the doctrine, the doctrine’s meaning, the application of qualified immunity in various contexts, critiques of the doctrine as currently applied, and recent efforts to limit its applicability (such as the unavailability of qualified immunity for civil claims arising under the Colorado Constitution). This course is designed for a broad audience, including practitioners who have very limited experience with qualified immunity and seasoned practitioners seeking a primer on current trends surrounding qualified immunity.
