Trying a case in front of a single judge is a far different experience than doing so before a jury. In this panel presentation, we’ll hear perspectives from both the bench and practitioners who are frequently in trial. With an eye towards both civil and criminal practice, the panel will discuss all that goes into a successful bench trial, including: considerations for choosing to try a case to judge versus a jury; pretrial practice in bench trials; issues at trial and evidentiary hearings before the court such as objections, witness questioning by the judge, and closing arguments; and post-trial issues including written proposed findings of fact and conclusions of law. 2 general CLE credits granted.
